  • 💡 What: Converted all images to WebP format, resized recipe images to appropriate dimensions (288x288 for 2x density), added explicit width/height attributes to prevent CLS, added loading="lazy" to off-screen images, and added fetchpriority="high" to the LCP hero image. Also added object-fit: cover to CSS to ensure proper aspect ratio handling.
  • 🎯 Why: Large unoptimized images (especially the 792KB hero PNG) were slowing down page load. Missing dimensions caused layout shifts.
  • 📊 Impact:
    • Hero Image: Reduced from 792KB (PNG) to 90KB (WebP) -> ~88% reduction.
    • Recipe Images: Significant reductions (e.g., Roti Curry from 139KB to 20KB).
    • LCP: Improved by prioritizing the hero image load.
    • CLS: Eliminated by reserving space for images before they load.
  • 🔬 Measurement: Verified using a Python Playwright script to check attributes, file formats, and computed styles. Visual verification confirmed no layout distortion.
