How to Buy a Domain with Namecheap

Flare requires you to have a registered domain in order to tunnel your server through Cloudflare. This is done to secure your IP, and server by routing all your traffic first through Cloudflare. If you want to be completely free, AKoD is the right choice for you but if you own a website, and want to be a more secure and faster service use Flare.

Purchase a Domain

  1. Go to https://www.namecheap.com/ and click the "Register" button at the top.
  2. Enter the domain name you want to purchase in the search box and click the search icon.
  3. Select the desired domain extension (e.g., .com, .net, .org) from the available options.
  4. Choose the desired duration for registration (e.g., 1 year, 2 years).
  5. Add any additional services you want, such as WhoisGuard (for privacy protection).
  6. Review your order and complete the checkout process by providing your payment details.

Configuring Cloudflare's Custom Nameservers

  1. Log in to your Cloudflare account at https://dash.cloudflare.com/.
  2. Click on the "Add Site" button.
  3. Enter your newly purchased domain name and click "Add Site".
  4. Cloudflare will automatically detect your domain's current DNS records. Leave the default settings and proceed to the next step.
  5. Choose the desired Cloudflare plan (free or paid).
  6. Once the domain is added, go to the "DNS" section of the Cloudflare dashboard.
  7. Scroll down to the "Nameservers" section and copy the two Cloudflare nameserver addresses provided.
  8. Log in to your Namecheap account and go to the "Domain List" section.
  9. Find your newly purchased domain and click the "Manage" button.
  10. Navigate to the "Nameservers" section and select "Custom DNS" from the dropdown menu.
  11. Replace the existing nameserver addresses with the two Cloudflare nameserver addresses you copied earlier.
  12. Click the "Save Changes" button.

After completing these steps, your domain will be using Cloudflare's custom nameservers, allowing you to tunnel your traffic through Cloudflare later.

Note: It may take some time (typically up to 24-48 hours) for the nameserver changes to propagate globally across the internet. During this period, your domain may experience intermittent downtime or performance issues.
