Thank you for proposing this change. However this would break backward compatibility with still pretty recent versions of GHC. Could you please make the inclusion of the semigroup conditional using the cabal |

This allows this library to be built using later version of GHC like 8.4.3 and onwards owing to the Semigroup-Monoid proposal
