would it be easily possible to introduce another listening port for metrics?
for those running the page publicly it may be undesirable to expose prometheus metrics to the world.

In terms of security this wouldn't provide any benefit, the entire network is public anyways since it's a DHT p2p network with no central authority, this also doesn't provide any metrics that would be considered hidden or secret, it doesn't provide any metrics that anyone wouldn't be able to just get

i agree. but from other projects i know that this will be a reoccurring question and i wanted to ask that beforehand.
and if someone would care it is possible to prevent access to the /metrics endpoint with a reverse proxy.
