🤠 The Blue Post

Your Modern-Western Event Scout for Calgary’s Blue Sky City The Blue Post is a comprehensive, accessibility-first community hub designed to help Calgarians find events, activities, and to-dos across the city. Built with a "Western Modern" aesthetic, it prioritizes inclusivity by providing deep-dive details often missed by traditional event sites—including sensory-friendly ratings, stroller/wheelchair accessibility, and integrated transit navigation.

Key Features

🎯 Smart Filtering: Automatically defaults to the current month upon load. Users can easily filter by category (Family, Couple, Outdoor, Free) or by month.

♿ Accessibility First: * Sensory Friendly Ratings: A 1–5 scale (5 being the most calm/quiet) to help users manage overstimulation.

Mobility Details: Clear icons for wheelchair and stroller accessibility.

Inclusive UI: Built-in toggles for Dyslexia-friendly fonts and High Contrast mode.

📍 Integrated Navigation: Every event modal features "Drive" and "Bus" buttons that launch Google Maps navigation directly from the user's current location.

📱 Mobile-First Design: A responsive grid (2 columns on mobile, 3 on desktop) with a persistent "Back to Top" button for seamless scrolling.

🌗 Auto-Adapt Theme: Automatically switches between Light and Dark modes based on system preferences.

🛠️Tech Stack

Frontend: HTML5, CSS3 (Modern Flexbox/Grid), Vanilla JavaScript.

Data Handling: PapaParse (for lightning-fast CSV parsing).

Hosting: GitHub Pages.

Design Palette: * Sky Blue: #40C2F3

Bold Red: #EF3340

Typography: Roboto Slab (Headers) & Inter (Body).

📈 How to Update Events

This site is powered entirely by a "Flat File" database system. You do not need to touch the code to update the website.

Open data.csv in the root directory.

Add a new row with the event details following the established headers.

Commit and Push the changes to GitHub.

The website will automatically refresh with the new data.

Note on Sensory Friendly Scale: > * 5/5: Very Sensory Friendly (Quiet, low crowds, soft lighting).

1/5: High Sensory Input (Loud music, strobe lights, very high density).

🎨 Design Inspiration

The look and feel of The Blue Post are inspired by the intersection of Calgary's heritage and its future. It blends the clean, expansive feel of the Blue Sky City branding with subtle western textures—like slab-serif headers and bold, "leather-strong" UI elements.

🤝 Contributing

This is a community-driven project. If you have a local event that should be featured on the Post, feel free to open a Pull Request or update the data.csv.
