I feel that when using it, its code-writing responses tend to be verbose. Could this be due to the model itself or other factors, and are there any good ways to avoid this?

Yes the model is definitely a reason for the code writing responses being verbose. You do have some other things you can do like change the temperature /set modelparam temperature (0.1 to 1)
You can ask it not to be verbose in your prompts (see ~/.llpxrt/prompts/core.md -- add that you want it to be terse in its responses)
