depRule: Combine multiple tags?

is it possible to combine multiple tags in a depRule? Something like:

'domain:X' && 'type:Y': 'type:Z'

@Tobias-08, you can always use a function for more complicated rule logic: https://sheriff.softarc.io/docs/dependency-rules#deprules-functions--wildcards

@rainerhahnekamp Thanks for your quick response. I was aware of the deprules-functions. But I can't check two different tags (e. g. domain and type) in a function because from and to always have only the value of a single tag. Or am I missing something?

@Tobias-08, so just to clarify—you want the function to return all tags assigned to the from and to modules, not just their tags, which are currently checked?

So something like this?

depRules: {
  'domain:*': ({ from, fromTags, to, toTags }) => {
    // logic with access to all assigned tags
  },
}

Yes, that’s definitely doable - but I feel there might be some risk of overcomplicating things.

Could you share a bit more about your use case? Maybe we can find a simpler solution before we open Pandora’s box. 😄

My problem was in the context of root in sense of granting access to the publicAPI of a module. But I now managed to solve it different: I wasn't aware that I could define an explicit module for the publicAPI instead of relying on automatic root. Now the need for checking all tags disappeared for this use case.

    'src/app': {
      '<domain>/internal/<type>': ['domain:<domain>', 'type:<type>'],
      '<domain>': ['domain:<domain>', 'type:publicApi'] // new, formerly root
    }
  }
