Cannot send messages from macos

Using a supported version?

• I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
• I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

I noticed this issue aroun 8th of Feb 2026. I can retrieve messages but none of them are sent.

• linked to iOS 26.2.1
• firewall disabled
• same on mobile access point and on WiFi

!! - After reinstall was working for ~5minutes

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to any chat
2. Type a message
3. Send
4. Instead of sending it shows sending circle

Expected result

Message sent to chosen chat

Actual result

Not aware of any error messages

Thank you for the report. Can you send debug logs so that we can investigate? I saw you mentioned firewall is disabled, but any other relevant details about the network would be appreciated. One of my coworkers and I are both having this same problem, including the ability to use the app for approximately five minutes after reinstall. His issues started on Feb. 6, and mine started today. Mac OS 26.2 (M1 Pro), Signal 7.88.0. I'll send my debug log to the email address.

We think this is likely related to firewall settings -- if you have a firewall set up, we'd love to know:

1. which firewall vendor/brand you're using
2. any firewall rules in place to allow Signal traffic
3. (if possible) if you're able to send messages when the firewall is disabled

Same here, it's working again. No changes in the Firewall here either.

We have reverted the change for most people, but the plan is to make adjustments and try again soon. For reference, this is how firewall rules should be setup for Signal: https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007320291-Firewall-and-Internet-settings . If sending messages fails again, we would love to know the firewall you're using and the existing firewall rules in place. Thanks!

Hi, how would firewall settings influence operations of Signal while macOS firewall being disabled? It's not on the network level since mobile device sending was working well.

This issue had nothing to do with firewalls since I didn't use a firewall.

Same problem here, on Gentoo Linux. Can receive messages, but cannot send anything.
I'm behind a non-transparent proxy (Squid), and everything worked perfectly until a few days ago.
Running Signal 7.90.0
Downgrading to 7.86 (not 7.89) makes everything working again.
