1. Set up a small committee comprising one expert from each category.
2. Using the analytics and investigations, select one impact open source project from each category to receive 1000 euros.
3. Organise a small online event to announce the winners.
4. Winners are allowed to use a small 'Winner Badge'.

I like the idea, and would suggest considering the following to be more impactful:

1. can we come up with a consistent set of criteria for evaluation?
2. do we have a clear formulation of the goals that we want to promote with this?
3. Can we think of categories which we want to particularly promote with particular criteria for each? (e.g. citizen science projects, projects from global south, innovative collaboration approaches, radical transparency, ...) There we could make a top 3 in each category and use the award to make both encouragement of the projects AND promote best practices

We should combine here qualitative insights from our analytics with quantitative insights and criteria. Ideal would have one expert category identifying maybe 5 good projects. All experts would vote on all projects with 13 votes per expert for every category.

Like with many awards, the really value comes from the spot light and not from the price. The goal is to create a public spotlight on one of the most impactful projects.

I would consider these to be qualitative criteria. Yes, it would be useful to write down what we consider to be impactful, based on the example qualitative criteria you mentioned. We could also have some special prices for the most innovative projects or the best citizen science project.

Also I don't think that there has to be a cash awards. If my organization was winning an award I'd probably be more motivated by the BUZZ it would create, to draw attention to the fact my company won. Rather than an extra $1000 bucks. Of course its nice I just think strategically the valour and marketing/SEO/bragging rights would be worth more.

@EndlessRecess The thing about the 1000€ is that we can show in this way that analytical data is very important to distributed grants and we could try to multiply this money. For some projects in low to medium income countries this could also change a lot! In Africa you can build a new projects with 1000€. Maybe we should really focus on regions where this money does have the most impact.
