Is there a way to /compact on tasks in VSCode extention?

/compact works when working with codex on the CLI but how can i do that for tasks in on the VSCode extention?

We don't currently expose the manual /compact command in the VS Code extension. With the latest models, auto-compaction removes the need to manually compact, so it hasn't been a high priority. Do you have a use case where you think manual compaction is needed?

It seems to not work when API key is connected, not ChatGPT subscription, recently I faced context overflow without the ability to compct it, so I coudn't even manually summarize the chat

Auto compaction should work fine with an API key (if you're using a relatively recent OpenAI model). If you're seeing cases where it's not working, please use the /feedback slash command to file a bug.

I want to save on token usage or avoid performance degradation due to excessively large contexts, so I'd like a compact command! Since the CLI and Claude Code provide this, why don't plugins? Shouldn't plugins maintain basic consistency with the CLI functionality?

@apple-ouyang, manual /compact won't save on token usage or mitigate performance degradation. You may find this blog interesting. In particular, look at the sections on token caching.
