Codex Context HUD — compactions and quota beside the native context ring on Windows

I built Codex Context HUD, a small open-source companion for Codex Desktop on Windows.

It keeps Codex's native context ring and adds two compact indicators immediately to its left:

• Compaction stages — three compact bars show the active task's compaction count. They progress from native gray (1–3), to soft yellow (4–6), soft red (7–9), and a soft violet highlight (10+).
• Remaining account quota — a compact progress bar shows the remaining allowance at a glance, shifting from soft green to yellow and red as it runs low.
• Exact values on hover — the toolbar stays icon-only, while the hover card shows quota and compaction totals.

The HUD follows the native composer when switching tasks or opening and closing sidebars. After a task switch, it waits for the new statistics before playing the update animation, so values do not jump midway through the transition.

Privacy and implementation

• Runs locally and binds its debugging endpoint to 127.0.0.1.
• Does not modify Codex installation files.
• Does not upload conversations, logs, or credentials.
• The normal path does not scan or cache large session JSONL files.
• Source is available under the MIT License.

Try it

It currently supports the Microsoft Store build of Codex Desktop on Windows 10/11. Download the latest release and run the included installer:
