Summary

Add an option for Codex to append a GitHub-recognized co-author trailer to commits it helps produce, e.g.:

Co-authored-by: Codex (AI assistant) [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

Why

• Transparency & auditability: Many teams must disclose AI assistance for compliance/review.
• Attribution: Makes it clear in history which changes were AI-assisted.
• Consistency: Pair/mob programming already uses Co-authored-by trailers; AI should fit the same workflow.
• Parity: Anthropic’s Claude Code offers an “Include co-authored-by” setting; Codex should too.

Proposal

Introduce a configurable setting to include a co-author trailer when Codex:

• generates a commit message,
• applies staged changes through a “Commit” action,

Lol, in this day and age not using AI at all is insanity. Literally assume any code written is AI influenced to some degree.

This is common across other agents and would be great to see it added to codex. I don't see it as checking which commit is AI or not, but rather which AI so we can compare the usage of tools. Claude does this in a nice way which is linked to a github account. This gives nice visual feedback on pull requests.
