Feature Request: Subfolders

It would be really convenient if we could categorize feeds using subfolders (or tags, if that is easier/more flexible). An example use case would be YouTube RSS feeds like so:

• Blogs
• Webcomics
• YouTube Subscriptions
  • Comedy
    • some feeds
  • Educational
    • ...
  • Minecraft
    • ...

Under the hood, this could be implemented using a standard separator in the name. Maybe this is done by making it URL safe, maybe with some other mechanism

Under the hood the data even allows to create nested folders, but it's currently not used for the web interface or any client know to me.
Maybe that could be done with the planned frontend rewrite, but there are currently more important points which have to be addressed first. 🙂

For now you could manually add separators to achieve something similar.
I currently use folders like this

• YouTube
• YouTube Music
• YouTube Science

If the current frontend were presented with a subfolder that was made by a client which understands that, what would it do?

I'd suggest trying, it's hard to tell.

It would just ignore the nesting of the folders and display the subfolder alongside the top-level folders.
(Just tested it by manually editing the database entry)

In the table oc_news_folders is a column parent_id which would define the id of the parent folder.

id	parent_id	name
1	NULL	Blogs
2	NULL	Webcomics
3	NULL	YouTube Subscriptions
4	3	Comedy

This example would result in the structure of you initial post (if implemented).
From the feed's perspective, it's just a normal folder. The subfolder nesting in the UI would be done entirely using the parent_id.

I second this. I mostly follow release pages for my self-hosted services. Being able to sort even just one level deeper would be very helpful to keep things cleaner.
