Responding to temperature

I'm trying to find somewhere in the documentation or an example of how to do things with temperature probes that we have on our UPS's. How does NUT notify about temperature? And how do I setup a notification and action for temperature? Is this part of Alarm? is it based on something in the UPS like OL,OB??

Check docs/nut-names.txt for defined names, and specific driver/subdriver(mapping) code for actually supported device features -- there may be ups, battery and ambient(.n) temperatures to consider at least. And also thresholds and alarm nodes.

I don't think there is a consistent way of raising an alarm (by NUT drivers comparing the values and/or the device raising some bit in some report), but just in case better check the code. In any case, ups.alarm is an unstructured string even when populated (may be a concatenation of several sentences for multiple events), so a separate data point is better when it is used.

To react, I think you would need to script a client -- whether a shell loop with upsc or upslog | while read ... ; do ... done, or a program using C/perl/python/... bindings. I don't think e.g. upsmon and upssched would be useful here unless a certain driver exposes temperature out of range as ALRM events too.

What's this, Powershell? Didn't spend much time with it, but otherwise yes, the logic looks roughly right.

• There may be third-party bindings, check at https://networkupstools.org/projects.html ...
• To initiate shutdown (along with the UPS, assuming that part is all well set-up and functional), you can call upsmon -c fsd
• Probably you want not result[45] but a map and lookup by string name(s).

Yes it powershell, being from the windows world its what I know :). Result 45 is the array item that has the temp. I could get fancier and look for ups.temp.. and then use that to find the value, but for now this was easier :D. This was more proof of concept.
