Option to change or hide the flags in the language dropdown

It would be helpful to have the ability to customise, replace, or completely hide national flags in the language selector dropdown.

Problem

Using flags to represent languages can be misleading or sensitive in certain contexts. A language does not always correspond to a single country (e.g. English, Spanish, Chinese), and in some regions flags may create confusion or unintended political implications.

For product documentation—especially for global APIs and developer portals—displaying flags may not be appropriate or necessary.

Proposed Solution

Introduce a configuration option that allows:

• Hiding flags entirely (text-only language selector)
• Replacing flags with neutral icons
• Customising which flag is shown per locale
• Toggling flags on/off via config

Why This Matters

• Improves international neutrality
• Avoids geopolitical sensitivity
• Keeps UI cleaner for technical documentation
• Gives teams flexibility in branding and localisation strategy
