Virtual environment not showing up from list of kernels

I am having an issue with my virtual environment showing up among the list of kernels when I use marimo from the VS Code extension (clicking the marimo button and using the Jupyter-like environment on VS Code). I am using the pixi package manager to create my environment. It works fine when I run marimo the normal way through marimo edit. My operating system is macOS.

Thanks for reporting. I transferred it here from vscode-marimo since this is where active development on the VS Code extension happens.

Pixi environments should be supported (#312). The extension shows all Python environments discovered by the VS Code Python extension, so if your pixi interpreter is visible in the Python extension (bottom right of VS Code), it should also appear as a kernel option in ours.

It would help to have more context. Could you please run the "marimo: Show diagnostics" command from the command palette and share the output? It would help to know what version of the extension you are on. Also, does the pixi environment show up in VS Code's Python interpreter selector (bottom right status bar)?

I got it to work now. I think the issue was that I was running marimo 0.16.5 originally, but I recently updated it to 0.20.2. I did notice that it's looking at a cached environment via uv. I also have uv installed as well. Would you happen to know why VS Code does that? Here's a screenshot. It's worth noting that my pixi environment is running Python 3.13.7.

I think I'm having a similar issue. The first time I tried to open a notebook with vscode+marimo extension it asked what interpreter I wanted to use but it only listed the system python, a python interpreter that is a dependency within homebrew, and the marimo environment, not my uv virtual environment. In subsequent attempts to change the interpreter it only lists the Marimo interpreter.

Hi, I'm using vscode in WSL Ubuntu and I'm having the same problem. My project is using a uv workspace and one of the packages inside the workspace has marimo as a dependency. I cannot choose the venv python interpreter from that workspace.

This is what select kernel shows:

In the marimo extension diagnostics I find the correct path to the venv in my project (just replaced it with the CORRECT_PROJECT_PATH tag)
