🔬 Integration Proposal: CAJAL — Local Scientific Paper Generation Node for Langflow

Hi Langflow team! I'm Francisco (@Agnuxo1) from the P2PCLAW research ecosystem.

Proposal

Add CAJAL as a custom component/node within Langflow for scientific paper generation workflows.

What is CAJAL?

• 4B parameter local model (GGUF), runs on consumer GPUs (24GB VRAM)
• Purpose-built for academic writing: LaTeX/Markdown, structured sections, citations
• Fully offline — no API dependency via llama.cpp/Ollama/vLLM
• Apache 2.0 open source

Why Langflow + CAJAL?

Langflow's visual workflow builder is perfect for no-code research automation:

1. Drag-and-drop paper generation: Research Data → CAJAL Node → LaTeX Output
2. Visual research pipelines: Literature → Analysis → Writing → Review — all visual
3. Team collaboration: Non-technical researchers can build paper workflows
4. Template sharing: "Paper Generation" flow templates for the community

Integration approach

• Custom Component: CAJALPaperGenerator node (accepts research notes, outputs manuscript)
• Component category: "AI/LLM" or new "Scientific Writing" category
• Configuration: Model path (local GGUF) or Ollama endpoint

Questions

1. Would a CAJAL component fit the existing component catalog?
2. Is there interest in scientific/research use cases from the community?
3. Should I start with a custom component PR or documentation/guide first?

@Agnuxo1 Since this LLM is available in both Ollama and Hugging Face, there's no need to create a specific component.

Simply use the Ollama or Hugging Face components and connect them to the desired LLM.

Once that's done, you can use them as a custom LLM in the Agent component or any other "smart" component.

Thank you for the clarification! That makes perfect sense — if CAJAL is already accessible via Ollama and Hugging Face components, a dedicated component would be redundant.

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the approach. If the Langflow community ever wants a "CAJAL Paper Generation" template or tutorial showing how to wire the Ollama component into a paper-writing workflow, I would be happy to contribute that.

Love the idea of a published use case! Let me create a template.

CAJAL + Langflow Use Case Template:

1. Input: User provides research topic (e.g., "quantum computing applications in drug discovery")
2. CAJAL Node: Generates IMRaD paper structure
   • Introduction: Background + hypothesis
   • Methods: Proposed experimental design
   • Results: Simulated findings with citations
   • Discussion: Limitations + future work
3. Output: Structured scientific draft in Markdown/LaTeX

Template features:

• One-click paper generation from research query
• Automatic citation lookup with CrossRef
• Peer review simulation (grammar, structure, methodology)
• Export to PDF/Word/LaTeX

I'll prepare the template JSON and share it in a PR. Where should I submit it?

I'd love to contribute a CAJAL node template. A couple of questions:

1. What's the preferred process — should I open a PR directly to https://github.com/Empreiteiro/langflow-templates with the CAJAL node configuration?
2. Is there a specific format or metadata structure the template JSON should follow?
3. Would you be open to a "Scientific Paper Generation" category, or should I add CAJAL under an existing one like "AI Tools"?

The CAJAL node would enable Langflow users to generate scientific papers locally (fully offline, 4B-9B parameters) directly from their workflows — no API keys needed.

Happy to adapt to whatever format works best for the project. Let me know and I'll prepare the PR right away!

1. You can open the PR directly to the templates repository.
2. The JSON must be a valid Langflow flow.
3. You can add it to a generic category for now. I'll pass it on to my team to evaluate the creation of a new one. I would be very happy to see several templates to support scientific research. I know that LF is used in many universities and by thousands of students.
