Does not work, click on "edit" button gives "Uncaught TypeError: notification.show is not a function"

Unfortunately, this addon does not work.

I installed the extension, and followed the instructions on github (install native app with submodules,
tried all 3 installation modes (normal, Debian, user).

Shift-Ctrl-D does not seem to do anything (but I can live with that). For the click on the "edit" button, I observed the "Firefox Multiprocess Browser Console", and clicking the edit button leads to the following entry in that console:

"textern" is not running, ps axfu | grep [t]extern returns empty-handed.

No Firejail in use.

• textern extension 0.8
• Firefox 128.12.0esr
• OS: Devuan (Debian stable fork without SystemD)

Any help getting this running is appreciated!

Hi.

I'm on Debian Trixie, with Firefox 142.0.1 Mozilla-deb-1.0, git commit aae145b. Python13 is the one that runs here.

I don't see a button to open the extension, tried changing the shortcut, but no luck on my side.

This is what I see

Any hint or direction to help me debug is greatly appreciated.

@ikks: I see in your comment that you are using Python 13. According to the project's README.md, only Python 3.5 is officially supported. But: I did install Python 3.5 (binary is
called python3.5) and changed the shebang in

$HOME/.local/libexec/textern/textern.py

to

#!/usr/bin/env python3.5

and it still does not work. When executing env python3.5 manually, I get this error:

Maybe if we found out how to make Python 3.5 run, this addon would work.

Maybe @jlebon can tell us if we're headed the right way, or we should just wait for an update?

@mjk-gh thank you for testing. @jlebon thank you for all the work. I tried https://github.com/asamuzaK/withExEditor as suggested in the readme and is working for me.
