How to send images over mcp without them being converted to text?

i have tried a lot of ways to send images to an llm over mcp, but can't do it without the image being sent as just base 64 text
i use latest llama.cpp to host a gemma 4, and fastmcp to host an mcp
gemma can't process the image and the image consumes context
is llama.cpp the issue or is it fastmcp?
