Can anyone offer help trying to automate garage door opening?

I have been working on this garage door automation for over a week, several times each day, and can’t get it to work. I am using iOS and iCloud3, Waze,- here is the messages in the trace but don’t know where the problem lies.

Thank you for the file.

I see that you have enabled "🧭 Confirm the location on startup" and have selected "GPS".
This means that the blueprint will not trust your location history and will ask your phone to update its location before starting anything at all.
(this is mainly made for devices that are slow to report location and are not "trustworthy").

In your case, your iPhone does not send back its location when asked !
So you hit the 1min timeout and the blueprint stops.
Honestly, I don't have an iPhone to try this, but maybe you could try following this guide: https://www.jimwillis.org/2025/12/04/location-tracking-w-iphone-and-home-assistant/ (only read "iOS Settings" and "Home Assistant App Settings")

And it still does not work, simply disable this blueprint feature.

Please let me know if this tutorial worked for you, so I can link it in the docs.

Here is my latest trace. It appears there still may be some type of gps issue but I still see no door opening when I arrive. I looked at the setting suggestions from the previous post and all of the iOS iPhone settings are as suggested.

I took a quick look at it, and found some issues:

1. In tour Trace 7, you are using the device tracker "device_tracker.mike_phone_mike_phone_mike_phone" whereas in the Trace 6 and 3, you are using "device_tracker.mikes_phone".
2. This first device tracker seems to be missing latitude and longitude attributes and crashes the blueprint. Are you sure this is a GPS device_tracker ? Or maybe it just fails to fetch and has no location ?
3. Your second device tracker reports a location, but is too slow to report a fresh state. Maybe you could try turning off "🧭 Confirm the location on startup". This will use the last known location until it gets updated.

From which integrations do your trackers come from ?

Here is my latest trace. Still not opening but I believe we are getting closer. I did turn off the confirm location on startup. I am also getting notifications of significant distance change during a trip suggesting gps is being received. One thing to be aware is the cell service near my home is very weak so it may not send any location data within 1KM.

Hello, sorry for the late reply, but I've read your logs and you're right, there are 2 positions sent at 19:23:06 and 19:23:55, but you seem to arrive at 19:33. There is still a 10min gap...
I don't know if this will work with icloud3, but maybe you could try enabling "🛰️ Request GPS location" in the "Refresh rate" section of my blueprint.
I know it works on Android, but I never had the chance to try it on an iPhone.

I downloaded and ran the script today. I drove to the grocery store about 2 miles away and the routine closed the garage door after a few minutes. I received a notification as I arrived at the store. After shopping, about 15 minutes, I got back in the car to return home. The garage door did not open and when I looked at the traces I only see the trace where I left home. Nothing was initiated by my return home (no trace). Here is the trace going to the store.

No. I have been trying different things and was about to give up on it. I can try to post my latest trace but it is quite confusing about what the true error is. So far it seems the garage door will close on exit sometimes but has never opened when I arrive. I am going to try to see if there are some issues with the start up when driving from a location away from home to arrive. Maybe the routine for car play is not properly kicking off when I begin my trip.

That's strange, I've had iPhone owners tell me that the Apple Shortcut triggers were working well for them.
Maybe you could try using a Bluetooth trigger instead ?
Also, are you sure that your iPhone has cell service where you start your vehicle ?

And by the way, I'm currently working on a branch to make the closing on exit more reliable for iCloud3.
I'm waiting on your validation of the branch I sent you to merge both of them.

Cell service is extremely weak at my home but gets stronger within half a mile from my home. When I first start the car I am still on the home network but lose signal after about 30 feet then regain it within half a mile. Today I made a round trip from home to about a mile away and returned to home. I also used Bluetooth as my shortcut trigger. That worked and the results were the garage door closed after notifying me it would close in 80 seconds, my setting. However it never opened when I arrived back home. During this trip I never turned off my car rather just made a 1.5 mile loop. Thanks for the redact routine and am including the redacted file in this response. Let me do some testing again tomorrow. Today the garage door actually both closed when I was leaving, as desired, and opened when I returned! I will try some more testing to see if it is working. The one thing that changed most recently is my startup helper using Bluetooth. I placed the startup toggle in my favorites so I could monitor it. It was automatic when I started the trip and closed the garage door within a few minutes of leaving.
