Please don't implement age verification

With systemd moving towards implementing age verification mechanisms, I'd like to ask the dinit project to explicitly commit to not following suit.

An init system's responsibility is to start and supervise services. Nothing more. Age verification belongs neither in an init system nor in system-level infrastructure in general. It introduces unnecessary complexity, raises serious privacy concerns, and goes far beyond the scope of what init systems should do.

As far as I understand it, the only step Systemd has taken in this regard is to add an age field to the user records in the "systemd-userdb" service (which isn't part of the init system itself). While you can criticise that move, it's not relevant to Dinit because Dinit doesn't implement any sort of parallel to that service.

I think it should be obvious that dinit won't be implementing age verification. I'm not making any formal commitment to this because (a) I don't think it's necessary and (b) my ideology/political standpoints are my own, I will take a stance when I consider something important and only then. To be clear, I'm generally against the age verification laws being pushed through by the Californian and other governments, but I don't believe they are relevant to this project, and if I'm going to use the project as a platform to make political or ideological statements, then frankly there are issues that are more important to me.

it also doesen't make sense to add it as some laws like gdpr require other requirements. The best way is just to add a disclaimer whether if someone from California then uses it, is there own problem. Also its anyway way too bypassable as someone will just fork it hence leading to unsecure alternatives and the law would just ask for different requirements thr next time, they pass a law.

but then again dinit and systemd are quite different.

Thanks for answering. In the meantime it is unfortunately not only systemd. Not sure if this has anything to do with ideology or political standpoints but taking a stand for an open internet based on open systems. Thanks for your great work. I hope you keep it up!
