Beta release for pypi

Description

Let's get a beta version up and running on pypi, so users can do a pip install. Working for this tutorial: https://packaging.python.org/en/latest/tutorials/packaging-projects/

For the actual beta release I think we should add a github workflow to automate the build and publishing -- so I recommend working through that tutorial to understand the release process and then I can walk you through how the automated approach works. It'll be pretty easy to borrow from how yt or yt_idv handles it, but working through the tutorial first will help a lot!
