How to paste an image from clipboard?

I have a copied image in my clipboard, and I want to paste it in the chat and send it directly. I am not particularly interested in the modifications (which I can do by myself), but since I see that in the ~/.conf/nchat/app.conf file there is an option named clipboard_past_image_command left blank, I was wandering if it was an option that can be activated by the user.

Hello @HanNotSoSolo - on most systems one should not need to configure those clipboard_ settings, if you have an image in the clipboard you should be able to just press alt-v to paste and send an image from the clipboard.

I see, it might be a bug in the nchat detection of platform. Does pasting text into nchat using alt-v / Fn + Shift + V work for you?

For Wayland nchat uses the wl-clipboard package. You can test if it's present on your system by checking if you can run for example wl-copy from the terminal.

Another thing to check can be what nchat interprets your key press (alt-v or Fn + Shift + V) as using nchat's key dump mode: nchat -k. If it outputs \33\166 then it matches what nchat expects. If you are seeing some other key code, you may need to edit ~/.config/nchat/key.conf and set the paste= to what you are seeing on your system.

But assuming other alt key bindings are working okay (say alt-n for the address book) then the default bindings should be okay.

Sorry for my late reply.

I see that Shift + Fn + V allows me to paste text, but not images.

I run which wl-clipboard, and saw that it was not installed in my system: I immediately installed it, and now not only Alt + V works for text, but also for images.

Maybe, you could add it in the requirements for Wayland? (I don't know exactly how it works)

In any case, thank you very much for your help and your time. I don't know if it's possible, but we can definitely mark this as a solution.

I'll see if I can add a dialog message when trying to paste, if it's missing on Wayland. Or at least update the documentation.

In 9434854 / v5.13.9 wl-clipboard has been added as a dependency for Wayland-based systems (in documentation and make.sh script).
