Pgpool-II: BACKEND Error: "Function: 'pgpool_regclass(cstring)' does not exist"

Problem

The integration with Pgpool-II will stop working with CrateDB 6.3.0. It is currently blocked by:

• pgcompat: Evaluate scalars lazily if WHERE clause is FALSE crate#19012

The problem is not that this function does not exist. The problem is that the function wants to be used, where the root cause is in the issue referenced above.

Alternatives

a) We should also evaluate ProxySQL ¹ as an external component to avoid hitting the database system. b) Materialized views can also be considered as a performance boost element to avoid expensive queries hitting the storage subsystem.
