If the vfs driver is being used, it's better to run it on top of a filesystem that supports the FICLONE ioctls (a.k.a. reflinks, or the remap_file_range() file operation), such as xfs, btrfs, or possibly ocfs2.
If it's being selected when it shouldn't, please provide more information about your setup, so that the case can be fixed.
