Strange DVD Playback Issue

I am trying to get DVDs to play in Mint 22.3 Cinnamon. I am asking here because of some unusual interaction with Celluloid that I hoping you could figure out why this is occurring. I have this issue with all DVDs. I have installed mint-meta-codecs and ubuntu-restricted-extras . I have also done:

sudo apt install libdvd-pkg
sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg

On VLC, I get the DVD menu to work but the audio and video is distorted once I play the video. On Celluloid, it will only play correctly when I open Celluloid first and then select the DVD to play. If I use Mint Cinnamon "DVD detected, which application to open it with" then celluloid will not work. I was trying to use this interaction of why Celluloid works only some of the time to figure out why playing on VLC never works (beside the DVD menu).

I am using a region set USB DVD player that is set to the correct region. I am not sure how to debug this. Here are my Celluloid logs.

In the first case, Celluloid constructs a URI using the device node for your DVD player and pass that to mpv. In the second case, the DVD is mounted under /media/ryu and the path is passed to Celluloid/mpv. My guess is that there's something wrong with the way the contents of the DVD appear in the filesystem, but I'm not sure what exactly went wrong.
