TL;DR: Gemini Desktop is going on hiatus. I'm no longer actively maintaining the project for the foreseeable future. The app continues to work and all releases stay available — but I can't commit to timely responses, fixes, or new features.
Life has gotten busy in ways that don't leave room to maintain this project the way it deserves. This wasn't an easy call — thank you to everyone who has starred the repo, filed issues, contributed PRs, and used the app. 💜
What this means in practice
- The app keeps working. Existing releases remain available for download, and the app should continue to function as long as gemini.google.com doesn't change in breaking ways.
- Issues and PRs may go unanswered for long stretches. Please don't take silence personally — it isn't.
- Security: Dependabot security alerts remain enabled, and I'll try to look at genuinely critical reports (see SECURITY.md), but I can't promise a response timeline.
- Dependabot version-update PRs are disabled so the PR list doesn't fill up with updates nobody is merging.
- The repo is not archived. Issues and Discussions stay open for community self-help, and I may return to active development in the future — this is a hiatus, not a goodbye.
