[explanation on Ernie's blog](https://ernie.io/2011/08/31/rails-3-1-and-the-future-of-metawhere-and-metasearch/) - There is a newer gem called [Squeel](https://github.com/activerecord-hackery/squeel) which is the successor to MetaWhere. (With similar syntax, although there are breaking changes)
