why does opening playnite from the taskbar take so long? is it supposed to be like this?

Literately instant. Do you have some tool installed that could be messing with how windows (position, decorations etc.) or Windows shell behaves?

everything else is instant except playnite

whats weird is that if i dont open it for like around 10 seconds then its instant, but then minimizing it and opening it again takes a long time

I can't reproduce it. Are you sure it's not whatever you are using to make taskbar transparent?

i tried turning that off but its still the same

Oh I think I finally understand what's going on, I somehow missed it from hhoneeyy's videos.

Here's what's going on:

• If you have minimize to tray enabled in Playnite, main window will completely disappear when Playnite is minimized, as expected.
• But that then makes taskbar to think Playnite is no longer running.
• So you next time when click on taskbar icon, Windows starts completely new Playnite process.
• That new process notices that there's already another instance running and restores that one.
• But obviously running new process is not instant and there's some stuff Playnite has to do before it can check for other instances, which results in this noticeable delay.

From quick search I did, I don't think there's any API we could use to tell Windows that Playnite is still running to keep taskbar icon in state linked to the original process. Unless I'm missing something.
