Executive Summary

Vision

ThreeDoors is a personal achievement partner that works with human psychology instead of against it. By presenting three diverse task options as "doors" rather than an overwhelming list, ThreeDoors reduces friction to starting and adapts to the user's current context, mood, and energy state.

Key Differentiator

Traditional todo apps demand perfect planning and create anxiety through confrontation with long backlogs. ThreeDoors inverts this by:

  • Presenting three curated options rather than demanding the user scan a full list, reducing decision fatigue and encouraging action
  • Working with existing tools (Apple Notes, Obsidian, text files) rather than replacing them, meeting tasks where they already live
  • Adapting to human nature by respecting varying energy states, tracking mood-task correlations, and celebrating any progress as meaningful

Target Users

ThreeDoors is built first for a single developer user, with potential to serve anyone who struggles with task management friction. The same user experiences three recurring states:

  • The Hyperfocus Navigator - Needs variety to combat subject fatigue, momentum transfer between tasks, and ways to sneak progress toward intimidating long-term goals
  • The Overwhelmed Juggler - Balancing multiple demand sources, needs trust that nothing falls through cracks while maintaining flexibility
  • The Stuck Starter - Struggles with inertia, needs low barriers to re-engagement and gentle encouragement without guilt

Success Criteria

Technical Demo (Phase 1) -- VALIDATED:

  • Built and running within 4-8 hours of development time
  • Developer uses it daily for 1+ week to validate UX concept
  • Three Doors selection results in faster time-to-first-action compared to scanning a full task list (measured via session metrics)
  • Decision to proceed to Full MVP based on real usage: PASSED

Full Product:

  • User completes at least one task per session via Three Doors selection
  • Three Doors decision time under 5 seconds (measured by door_selected event timestamps)
  • Mood-task correlation data accumulates to enable adaptive door selection within 2 weeks of regular use
  • Sync latency under 2 seconds for all configured providers
  • Zero data loss during offline operation and sync replay

Core Philosophy

Progress over perfection. Any improvement in what you work on, what you track, or how you align actions with values matters. Better today than yesterday.
