Can I hide the "Source Code" button in TinyMCE but only for a certain role (non Admins/SuperUsers)?

I know I can configure the WYSIWYG to hide the Source Code using the "Override Show/Hide of Special Buttons" but that changes it for everyone, including me as a SuperUser.

I have a case where I want to hide the button from the content editors on the site but not for SuperUsers. Is that possible?

It really depends on how far you want to go.

Just with built-in features I don't think you can do this. Formulas may be able to reconfigure this, but it would take some experimenting and it may or may not work. I guess I would have to try some things to figure this out.

What would always work is to create a custom WYSIWYG input-field which implements this functionality.

Ideally you would then have to figure out a way to override the default WYSIWYG to do this. I'm pretty sure it's possible, but would require some experimenting on our side as well.

In the end it boils down to: make sure you have a clear spec of what you need, and it can probably be done in about a days work.

Would this be on a per-field configuration, or would the idea be that this is global?

Per field would mean that anywhere this should work, it would have to be configured.

Global would need to be a setting which would apply to basically all WYSIWYG inputs in the system...

It may be important to note that there are additional filters in place - so even with the html option, not every HTML would be accepted as input and it may be cleaned out on save.

For example, adding <script> tags would simply not work.

Honestly I could make it work with either global or otherwise, per field most likely makes sense. And 100% understand that not everything is allowed. The goal isn't actually to allow a ton more, its to allow a little bit, but don't let the unfamiliar do things they shouldn't.

How about if system-admins could enter debug mode (ctrl+alt+click) and would then see the button? would that maybe be an option?
